Four oral semaglutide presentations now exist across two indications, which makes "oral versus injection" a more layered question than it was a year ago. Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets are labelled for type 2 diabetes; Wegovy tablets are labelled for weight management and cardiovascular risk reduction.

Read that table by indication first, not by route. An oral product approved for diabetes is not an alternative route to a weight-management prescription — it is a different labelled use. The route question only becomes a real choice within the same indication.

One label instruction applies across all of them and is easy to miss: the Wegovy label states that using it alongside other semaglutide-containing products, or any other GLP-1 receptor agonist, is not recommended. Oral and injectable semaglutide are not additive.
Common questions
- Why do oral doses run so much higher?
- Oral semaglutide is absorbed far less efficiently, so the milligram figures are on a different scale. Wegovy tablets maintain at 25 mg daily against 2.4 mg weekly for the injection. Never convert between them.
- Are the tablets new?
- The weight-management tablet presentation is recent; Rybelsus has been available for diabetes for considerably longer. Label revision dates for every product on this site are listed on the about page.
